A Wedding in Greece
A week after the start of our Greek escapade, from bustling and busy Athens to calm and reflective Northern Greece, to exciting and wonderful Santorini and Mykonos, we finally got around to our whole reason for coming: the wedding of Monicca’s good childhood-friend, Bryn Martinez to Greek-American, John Zavras.
When I saw these two back in Manila a year ago, I knew that they would make an excellent match. I can go on about complementary personalities or shared life goals or similar family backgrounds especially in terms of the concept of family, but the fact is, he’s Greek! You can’t go wrong with the lineage of Leonidas and Hercules, people!
* My stunning fiancee posing with the whole of Ornos beach as a backdrop. The wedding was on a hilltop overlooking this fantastic view.
* John looking like he’s going through the 4 typical stages of DOOM for grooms-to-be (excitement - denial - DREAD - acceptance), while waiting for the bride-to-be.
* Bryn looking radiant while being walked by her super cool dad, Tito Bamboo, and a woman who, from this angle, looks uncannily like 90’s TV favorite, Alex Mack!
The very quaint St. George Chapel was the setting of the mass that involved a lot of sermons in Greek, rice throwing and walking around in circles. Very cool! I proceeded to take down notes..
* The reception was actually just a few feet away from the Church! The party was everything I expected a Greek wedding to be: awesome band, great food, lots of loud laughter and drinking and Greek dancing! The only thing missing was a guy getting thrown into the pool.. but I guess that’s not the Greek way!
* The newlyweds making their entrance after taking loads and loads of pictures set against a romantic (insert: rock, chapel, view, tree, sunset, shrub, staircase, bookshelf, lamp post, driveway, old-school car, vespa, terrace, balcony etc)
* Monicca and our chaperone Tita Khamil, enjoying some cocktails before dinner. Tita K was a good sport this whole trip, being very cool and an excellent photographer for couple shots (especially towards the end). Thanks for coming with us Tita K!!
* And here’s Tita K having her own bit of fun!
* The newlyweds and the soon-to-be-marrieds-next-year!! Congrats you guys!! Thanks for having us over. Now go and make little Achilles, Athena and Pedro!
