The Tourist-Loving Dogs of Greece
I can’t end my entry on our Greek travels without talking about one of my favorite parts of the whole trip: the Greek dogs!!
Standing guard, walking around, but mostly sleeping; these HUGE (like Beethoven big), somewhat chubby, docile and friendly creatures can be found EVERYWHERE in the country! And by everywhere, I mean even in friggin boutique stores!
Apparently, these guys are every bit as important to the Greek state as its own citizens as they are constantly fed and protected by the local government and shop owners themselves. That’s some heart-warming stuff right there, people!
* Outside Zara along Ermou St.
* Patrolling Ermou St.
* Outside a department store, Ermou St.
* Guarding a shoe store, Ermou St.
* A couple napping outside a local Greek store.
* Two more napping outside Mango, Ermou St.
* Siesta at the entrance of the Temple of Hephaestus
* A were-beast and mutt at the corner of the Plaka Flea Market
* Contemplating at the Ancient Athenian Agora
* Joining us at the meeting point of our tour bus to Northern Greece
* Lying in the parking lot of one of the pit-stops to Northern Greece
* Outside the hotel in Kalambaka, Meteora
* On the steps of the Monastiraki Metro Station, Athens
* Near the Panathinaikos Stadium
* Shaggy Beast guarding the Temple of Olympian Zeus
* Two dogs and a cat at Hadrian’s Arch
* Chillin’ at the Temple of Poseidon
* At the bus stop of the Acropolis
* Waiting for his chance to pounce behind a sign at the Acropolis
* Snoring loudly on the steps up to the Acropolis
* Sitting on a rock like a boss!
* Ignoring all the tourists at the Propylaea
* Just passing through!
* Hanging with a bunch of American teenagers at the Acropolis
* Nap-buddies outside the Church of Panaghia Kapnikarea in Plaka.
* Best Friends in Fira, Santorini
* Post-lunch nap at Oia, Santorini
* Were-beast at Mykonos Port
* Sleeping by the entrance of a restaurant in Mykonos Town
* With this elderly gentleman on the shopping alleys of Mykonos
* And THIS picture of the only small dogs that I saw in Greece for the ENTIRE time I was there
